Philanthropy

Alpha Kappa Psi firmly believes in giving back to the community. Sharing our time and talent with society and with our fraternity is a priority. Alpha Kappa Psi brothers actively provide service to the community through volunteer events and monetary support. We seek to improve the welfare of the communities in which we do business, improve lives, and develop goodwill. Our chapter specifically holds the following philanthropy events along with weekly opportunities to volunteer at the Soup Kitchen, Senior Center and other local philanthropies:

Adopt-a-Class Winton Hills Academy:
Winton Hills Academy is a school in inner city Cincinnati AKPsi has a special relationship with. We are pen pals with the students, have regular visits throughout the semester, throw pizza parties for the kids, donate school supplies, and hope to be an inspiration for these students who might not otherwise get the attention at home.  We have developed a strong bond with this school and these children that will have a lasting impact on the students, teachers and members of AKPsi.

Service Trip:

Once a semester, the Chapter sponsors a service trip to a nearby city. Each trip is different and provides our brothers with unique, valuable experiences. This past April, a group of brothers traveled to Cincinnati to give back to the community. They took our Adopt-a-Class from Winton Hills Academy to the Cincinnati Zoo, visited St. Joseph's and met the residents, and worked at Permaganic by planting foods in the garden.

Amazing Race:

The pledge project this semester was the Amazing Race. All of the pledges were divided into committees and assigned a brother as the committee head. Ultimately, the pledge project is a great experience and opportunity for our pledges to improve their organizational and communication skills as they transition into our brotherhood. This semester, the project raised over $5,000 which was donated to Friends of Winton Hills Academy-a Foundation that provides financial assistance to graduating students for education such as textbooks, tuition, and other school-related expenses.

Blood Drive:

Once a semester, AKPsi co-sponsors a blood drive at Miami University. This past semester, we registered 100 individuals for the blood drive which was 136% of the collection target making this one of the most productive student-organization led blood drives this year. As a result, up to 216 patients in our community have access to blood they may need.
